LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Today) 10/23/08 – When making an album, some say the creative possess can take months, even years, but in this case 17-years for Guns N’ Roses. After a much anticipated release for “Chinese Democracy” to hit CD shelves, fans and critics will finally get to hear new material and judge if the album is up to par.
What seems to be worrisome is the fact that Axl Rose remains the only original member of Guns N’ Roses. “Chinese Democracy” marks the first album of new material since 1991’s dual release of Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II. Set for release on November 23, the record is being billed as “of the most highly anticipated albums in rock history.”
After various line-up changes and decades after their mid-1980s success and following such hits as Sweet Child ‘O Mine, Paradise City, and Welcome to the Jungle, Axl could come back alive and swinging if the album proves as a success—much needed in this case. From selling out stadiums to the huge world-wide success of Appetite for Destruction—which sold more than 28-million copies—fans are hoping that Axl stepped up his game. After all, 17-years in the making sounds like more than enough time.
“The release of Chinese Democracy marks a historic moment in rock n’ roll,” Irving Azoff and Andy Gould, Guns N’ Roses’ co-managers, said in a statement.
“And we’re launching with a monumental campaign that matches the groundbreaking sound of the album itself. Guns N’ Roses fans have every reason to celebrate, for this is only the beginning.”
Although fans may hope for a reunion of original members, Slash, Izzy Stradlin and Duff McKagan, in 2006 a representative for Axl Rose shot down the idea amidst rumors that Slash was having troubles with his band Velvet Revolver. Scott Weiland, original lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots and lead singer of Velvet Revolver, has since disbanded from the group. However, Velvet Revolver is still very much together and talks of a Guns N’ Roses reunion have been put aside.
